Topic Proposal
The community that I am choosing to use is the athletic community. This is a community because of the extremely large group of people who are in. All of these people in the athletic community share values such as; team-work, hard work, drive, and determination, as well as a shared sense of competitive nature, a desire to win, to succeed. I know a lot about the athletic community and how it works, because sports have been invaluable to my life since I was in pre-school I have learned a lot about the community. Although I would like to learn more about the different dynamic that college brings to sports, whether the sport is intramural, club, or varsity level I'm interested in learning the differences and similarities between the college athletic communities.

My name is Luke Alan Johnson. Growing up in a large suburban community widely considered rich due to housing the largest high school in the state of Ohio along with an enormous GE Campus and King's Island was interesting. Despite being the largest high school in the state we weren't very good at football, or basketball... But we were the best at everything else, which was good, considering the sports I played through high school were baseball and wrestling. Although the sports I played weren't necessarily the "popular" ones I still was identified as a jock. Which was fine, in high school I accepted that role because for the most part it was true. That was the community I was a part of and I was perfectly alright with it.
When it came to college I had my top three choices narrowed down, it was between The Ohio State University, The University of Kentucky, and The University of South Carolina. As an engineering major with a family background of attending Ohio State there was a lot of pressure to attend school there, but I think that's what pushed my interests elsewhere. Leaving it down to South Carolina and Kentucky was also an easy decision as The University of Kentucky gave me more scholarship money to attend school there.
As far as choosing a major, for a long time I wanted to go to college in some kind of engineering major under a Navy ROTC scholarship and then enlist in the Navy with intent of becoming a Navy SEAL. After getting that shot down by my parents, at least 10 times, I pushed that dream to the back of my mind. As my yearn to become an engineer grew I looked into Chemical Engineering which quickly changed into Civil Engineering after taking AP Chemistry my junior year in high school. This choice was cemented in my brain after shadowing a Civil Engineer last summer that I played men's softball with. That's who I am, and how I got to where I am now.
