Blog #7

In creating my documentary so far I have become worried. I'm not sure how well my investigation into the issues between fraternities and universities will be able to fill the requirements for the documentary. It's extremely difficult to collect relevant video evidence of this topic and is also extremely difficult to gather an interview with members of the Interfraternity Council at the University of Kentucky. This may be because of the poor relationship. On top of this, my investigation really hasn't taught me much about my community. Everything I've learned about the Greek community has been from living in it. The only legitimate thing that I've learned is that nearly all fraternities around the country have poor relationships with their universities because fraternities are a huge risk when it comes to the university. I have also gathered that universities really only keep us around as a recruitment point to incoming freshman and as a source of alumni that return to the university and produce donations. I may have to change my topic into something more pertinent within my community as my investigation seems to have come to a stand-still and I don't see it progressing too much further into a good documentary that meets the requirements for the class. I am considering turning my investigation into one about Scholarship. This is much more prevalent within my community and I could easily gather a lot more evidence and video with this topic. In conclusion, my investigation of fraternity and university relations has come to a stand-still, this has created large amounts of stress and difficulty. Therefore I am considering changing my topic into one about scholarship within fraternities and Greek life as a whole.
